A colourful story about a sensitive microalga
A new article is out about the legacy of the D-FACTORY project. In our project coordinator's words “This is tantalising proof of the potential of Europe’s Blue Bioeconomy in market terms, but also in scientific and environmental terms”.
The Design and Modelling Platform is available online
The D-factory partner NTUA, together with the entire D-Factory consortium developed a Design & Modelling Platform. From today is available online and it implements:
- process modelling;
- synthesis and design optimisation;
- process flowsheeting;
- techno-economical analyses.
Algae Biorefineries for Europe
Algae Biorefineries for Europe is a joint conference organized by D-factory together with other three European projects that have focused over the last four years on the potential of microalgae as the crop of the future.
D-Factory goes to Africa
D-Factory 36M Meeting
The 36M meeting of the D-Factory project was held in Athens (Greece) from 23rd to 25th November 2016. The meeting was hosted by National Technical University of Athens
. A total of 29 representatives from partner institutions attended the meeting. The first two short D-Factory videos were presented to the Consortium and are now online! The next meeting will be in Stockholm.

D-Factory partners A4F and IBET will present a poster (Title: Culture medium recycling in the cultivation of Dunaliella) at the AlgaEurope 2016
conference in December. The communication will address the culture medium recycling experiments conducted within the project.
High value products from algae workshop
Today, Patricia Harvey (University of Greenwich) D-Factory coordinator gave a 5 minute flash presentation to the HVCfP/PHYCONET
networks in Nottingham (UK). Title of the talk - Extracting value from the Dunaliella microalgal value chain: opportunities and challenges.
D-Factory @ FOOD 2030
On Wednesday 12th October, Dr Patricia Harvey, D-Factory coordinator gave a talk to FOOD2030
- a workshop on aquatic food products and new marine value chains hosted by the European Commission. The event explored what is needed to transform and future-proof our food systems to be sustainable, resilient, competitive, diverse, responsible and performant in their provision of accessible, healthy and sustainable food and diets for all. You can find Prof. Harvey's presentation on our Science Communications
Second Lisbon Microalgae Biotechnology Adavanced Course 2016. November, 13th-18th
is organising the Second Lisbon Microalgae Biotechnology Adavanced Course
2016. This year LIMBAC will give a larger emphasis to pilot plant cultivation techniques and will be developed in A4F Experimental Unit and laboratory. The course aims to familiarize participants with advanced concepts of microalgae cultivation paying special attention to scale-up processes, large scale cultivation and downstream processing. Fons Jacobs of Evodos B.V
. will be one of the speakers.
Workshop on soft skills
A 1-day exclusive workshop on soft skills, with a special focus on team building for research projects, was held in London on July, 7th by project partner IN. The workshop was focussed on better listening and communication skills and understanding one’s character strength profile. “Thanks for the opportunity to have a glance of what the right tools might do!” said one of the participant. The next workshop will be carried out within the end of this year.

New partner and demo site
will join the D-Factory consortium as new partner
. Monzon is a Spanish company producing algae for aquaculture, food and cosmetics. The company has a unique location with access to clean salt, heat, electricity and CO2. unaliella grows naturally in the area and has been cultivated since 2006. Monzon has been chosen as the new European D-Factory demo site because its environmental conditions are optimal to grow algae without human intervention. For more information on Monzon see here
